By now, most of us are accustomed to the nicely worded rejection letter. It usually begins with "Thank you for your interest in XYZ firm. Unfortunately,..." and ends by wishing you the best of luck in your future endeavors, blah, blah, blah. Well, I got the best rejection letter to date via email this evening.
The email reads as follows:
Thank you for your resume, but we will not offer you an interview.

No greeting. No name(s). Nothing. Might as well have just typed "No." in the subject line of the email and pressed send.
Wow.
Once received an email stating, "Attached is a letter regarding the clerkship program with the CLC. Thank you." The letter was as follows:
ReplyDeleteMarch 13, 2009
Dear Mr. W:
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your application for a summer internship with the Children’s Law Center of Los Angeles.
We received a great number of applications from many well-qualified law students. However, the number of applicants far exceeded our requirements for the summer program. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a position at this time.
We appreciate your interest in the CLC and regret that this response cannot be more favorable. We wish you well in your plans for the summer and in your legal career.
Very Truly Yours,
P V.F. R, Esq.

... It wouldn't have been so bad if the attachment, which was the first thing I saw, was titled "Rejection.ltr.wsig.2009". Keep your head up.
